A good translation keeps the original exactly as vague as it was. That is its job. Making it explicit is a different job, and it takes one tap on their message.

Yes, but not forever: a chat goes read-only after 14 idle days and is deleted entirely, translations included, 30 days later (about 6 weeks in all). When the last person leaves, the chat disappears on the spot. Signing in just means you can reach your chats from any device while they last.
Long numbers (phone, passport, booking codes) are swapped for placeholders before anything reaches the AI and put back verbatim afterwards, so the model never sees them. Free-tier translation never leaves Clarr’s own server; signed-in translation uses Google’s paid API, which doesn’t train on your content.
Tap the language button at the top right of any chat, anytime. Your interface language and the language you read translations in are two separate settings.
It translates with the whole conversation in mind and picks up on tone, so friendly teasing doesn’t come out sounding like an insult.
Clarr started on a trip. At an ice cream shop in Vietnam, the girl behind the counter translated Vietnamese to Chinese on her phone, then handed it to me for my reply. The on-screen keyboard had no Taiwanese input, and I don't type pinyin. Translation had crossed the language gap, only to get stuck the moment a phone changed hands.
Then I remembered a small app I'd seen at COMPUTEX, by a Japanese developer: scan a QR code and two people talk through AI, each in their own language. Those two moments connected, and back home Clarr was born: everyone on their own phone, their own keyboard, their own language, with translation taken care of.
Clarr is a nickname for “Clarent”, the legendary sword of peace, with a nod to clear and clarity. Your languages may differ, but what you mean still arrives, clearly.
